Ohio State University researchers have successfully integrated a battery and solar cell, a major breakthrough in what has traditionally been a technically challenging area of solar battery development.
The ‘air powered’ battery:-
» ‘Inhales’ during power discharge and ‘exhales’ during recharge
» Is highly efficient, discharging power during a reaction between potassium and oxygen
» Uses a flexible, permeable solar panel mesh made from titanium dioxide allowing air to pass freely
between the matrix while the rods capture photons of light
» Has the potential to –
• Reduce renewable energy costs on the product by up to 25%
• Improve the operating efficiency of solar powered batteries
