Nature vs Nurture (Part 8) – When is a Protocol?
Australia, along with 5 other countries did not sign the Kyoto Protocol, instead, declaring a pact to share new clean technologies as they were developed. (Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate, which Canada joined in 2007.)
This was all hailed as very ground breaking activity and in 5 years they disbanded – barely enough time for a new idea and short enough to hold back on something potentially financially valuable.
Within the Kyoto protocol framework neither India nor China were required to reduce their emissions. Whilst refusing to sign the protocol, Australia expressed its commitment to achieving the reduction target.
One of the ‘successes’ of this partnership was “pushing solar photovoltaics towards commercialization”………….?
