New life for tyres
Gold Coast company, Molectra Technologies, has won the Eureka engineering award for it process to turn discarded tyres into useful hydrocarbons such as rubber feedstock, oil, carbon and activated carbon, and diesel fuel.
The system leaves practically no waste and can be quickly customized to meet market demands, for example more rubber and less oil, or vice versa.
The Eureka prize for industry went to Wireless Monitors for the Cent-a-Meter Wireless Electricity Monitor, which provides instantaneous information on how much money is being spent on electricity.
It will have a newly discovered marine worm named after it. Idanthyrus wireless-monitorus lives on beaches in Australia’s west and north.
