Recycling agricultural plastic waste
A mobile recycling plant that visits Queensland regional councils to collect and recycle polyethylene plastic used in agriculture has been designed and built.
Separate modules are transported and assembled where required. The plant can be operated by just two people and churns through two tonnes of plastic per hour.
According to the Queensland EPA, about 60,000 tonnes of agricultural plastic are used annually in the state. It is estimated that 3,000 tonnes end up in landfill, some is reused, and the rest is burned, stockpiled or illegally dumped.
